Bridgerton release new names for season 2

It’s common knowledge now that Regé-Jean Page won’t be returning for Season 2 (possibly because of conflicts of a busy career plus covid making it hard to travel to and fro) but Shondaland is pampering us with a bunch of new characters! See below the new names, including actress Simone Ashley, who will play Kate Sharma (Sheffield in the books), Anthony’s romantic interest in this season.

Kate Sharma

Simone Ashley will play Kate, a fan favourite, and her looks are just as fierce as I have imagined Kate to be! The family surname was changed, but apparently, the family configuration will go on, as Kate isn’t Mary’s biological daughter in the books. The character description, release by Shondaland, says: Kate is equal parts headstrong and whip-smart. Her sharp wit and independent nature make her a singular force on the 1814 marriage mart, where she hopes to secure a love match for her younger sister Edwina.

Edwina Sharma

Our little cutie pie! Edwina will be played by the cutest girl in the world, Charithra Chandran, who, in less than twelve hours in this crazy fandom, was surprised by a feud between Portuguese and Brazilians, just because she wants to learn our language. Welcome, Chari, don’t mind us, we’re a bit passionate about Bridgerton. The character description says: Edwina has been taught by her older sister Kate to be the perfect debutante. She’s kind-natured and endlessly endearing. But while she may be young and naive, she also knows what she wants: a true love match.

Lady Mary Sharma

Edwina mother’s and Kate’s stepmother will be played by Shellen Conn. Apparently, her role was a bit changed: Mary will be an earl’s daughter and her marriage to Papa Sharma was not a good choice (in her family view, of course) as in the books. The description gave us tons to theorize, mostly because they changed some words from the first time we saw it! The first version said “marriage to a tradesman” and “her own daughters”. This could be a clue about how Kate and Edwina “differences” will be about birth and not beauty (since Edwina would be the granddaughter of an earl and Kate a “plain” miss).

Lady Mary’s marriage once embroiled her and her family in scandal. Now newly returned to London with her daughters, she’s forced to endure the scrutiny of the ton yet again.

Jack

Jack, Jack, the mysterious Jack! Played by Rupert Young, we have no surname and a description that leave us with more questions than answers. Will Jack be the hateful Featherington Heir (all heirs from outside the family are hateful) or his mystery revolves around the Bridgertons? Maybe Lord Featherington’s bastard son? They couldn’t legally inherit, but this is Shondaland and they could do some twist, like him being a natural son of Archibald Featherington but legally raised as a cousin or something. The description says: The newest member of the ton with a connection to one of its most notable families.

Theo Sharpe

A brand new character for our beloved show! Theo Sharp will be played by Calam Lynch and we don’t know much about this new character than what Shondaland gave us. Fans are already theorizing if his role will be related to Lady Whistledown or if he will be Edwina love interest. His passions certainly gave us feelings of Edwina’s ideal man, check it out: A hardworking printer’s assistant. But he’s not just a working-class man, he’s also an intellectual who fights for the rights for all.

The second season still has to begun filming, but keep tuned for more news about Bridgerton!
